Foreign Affairs Minister Calls on Russia to Boost the Economy

Dr. Alie Kabba-Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Thursday 22nd November, 2018 called on the Russia Ambassador to Sierra Leone to bring investors to Sierra Leone. He appealed to the Ambassador to lure investors to come and invest in the country, adding that Sierra Leone has a conducive business environment that will make businesses grow and boost the economy. Dr. Kabba maintained that investments by Russians in Sierra Leone will strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries. He informed the Ambassador on discussion he has held with President Julius Maada Bio on the relationship between Sierra Leone and Russia, describing Russia as a major player in the international system. The meeting took place in the office of the Minister, Tower Hill in Freetown.

Acting Foreign Minister Assures German Ambassador

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mrs. Nimatulai Bah-Chang has assured the German delegation of her Ministry’s readiness to fast track the process leading to the signing of the Inter-Governmental Agreement. She made the statement during a familiarization visit of the delegation in her Tower Hill Office in Freetown on Wednesday 14th November, 2018.  Mrs. Bah-Chang said that fast-tracking the signing of the Agreement will demonstrate commitment on the part of the Government of Sierra Leone. “We are ready to show our cooperation on issues of development in line with the New Direction campaign Manifesto” she emphasized. The Acting Minister pleaded with the German Team to look into the issuance of Shenge Visa by opening an office in Freetown that receives Visa application instead of travelling to Ghana to get Shenge Visa constituting an extra financial burden on Sierra Leoneans.

Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Encourages UN Family

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mrs. Nimatulai Bah-Chang has called on the United Nations Family to look into the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Report for the implementation of its Recommendation. She said the baseline for sustainable peace in Sierra Leone is the implementation of that Report, which she believes if implemented will contribute to structural development in the country. Mrs. Bah-Chang told the UN family that Sierra Leone will progress better with the establishment of institutional structures that deal with right issues, she therefore encouraged the UN Family especially the United Nations Development Programmes to support women empowerment particularly women opting to contest elections.

France Ambassador Updates Acting Foreign Affairs Minister

The France Ambassador to Sierra Leone and Guinea Jean-Marc Grosgurin on Wednesday 14th November, 2018 updated the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mrs. Nimatulai Bah-Chang on plans of the French Government for Sierra Leone. The Ambassador told the Acting Minster that his Government intends to invest in the areas of military, agriculture, mining and banking with the view of boosting the cooperation between the two countries. He said strengthening cooperation with the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) naval wing and the Ministry of Marine Resources will lead to the control of illegal fishing on Sierra Leone waters.

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Appeals for Capacity Building

Mrs. Nimatulai Bah-Chang-Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has made passionate appeal for capacity building of public officers working for the Government of Sierra Leone. She made the appeal to Mr. Neil Victor Jarvis Section Head for Africa Division, Department of Technical Cooperation at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) during a visit to the Minister at her office, Tower Hill in Freetown on Tuesday 13th November, 2018. She told the IAEA Expert that training the staff of various Ministries, Departments and agencies is of essence, adding that the training will help to sustain the radiotherapy facility the Energy Agency is working with the Government of Sierra Leone to build.
