In finalization of GCM Report, Foreign Affairs, IOM and Others on a round table,

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the International Office for Migration (IOM) and other partners on Tuesday held a one-day stakeholder meeting to finalize the National review report on the implementation of the global compact for Migration (GCM) in Sierra Leone.

Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Foreign Minister Mamadi Gobeh Kamara informed the meeting that in 2020 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated the review of the draft National report and noted that she is pleased that the final step to complete the report has been initiated.She said that the engagement is timely for two reasons: firstly, it coincides with the finalization of the Government’s Policy on Migration and secondly, to finalize a profound work undertaken by Government, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), MDAs and Non-governmental Organizations to develop a national document that deals with migration issues.

She called on participants to thoroughly examine the final report so that it will be in tandem with the country’s recent Immigration Policy developed under the auspices of the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.Mamadi Gobeh Kamara on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone, appreciated the support of IOM to government development efforts. She further highlighted specific areas of IOM’s intervention; the provision of resettlement packages to returnees from the Middle East and the Maghreb, partnership with the Japanese Government to jointly sponsor a team of Sierra Leonean Diaspora Medical Mission that provided critical medical services, in hard-to-reach areas within Kamakwie in Karena District. This she noted, complement’s government’s effort towards the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 3), which is to ensure healthy lives and promote well being for all at all ages.

The deputy foreign Minister pledged the support of her Ministry to continue working closely with the IOM, the Immigration Department and all partners in their collective efforts to effectively harness the vast potentials of our diaspora community while also looking at ways of discouraging our youthful population from taking brazen adventures in the search of elusive greener pastures that have often ended in harrowing experiences and dire consequences.

Investors From The Republic Of Egypt Pays Courtesy Call on Deputy Foreign Minister.

Investors from the Arab Republic of Egypt to Sierra Leone have met with the Deputy Minister Of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Madam Mamadi Gobeh Kamara at her tower Hill office in Freetown.

The Head of delegation Eng. Osama M.K Abdelhamid in his remark extended warm greetings from his Country and introduced members of his delegation, he continued by stating the purpose for their one week visit to promote businesses by developing the Country.

He reiterated that the investments will be based on three companies; the World Wide Base Technology Limited, Pharco Pharmaceutical, African Economic Council/ Pan-African Movement, and Mosa Trade which will be operating in areas such as Energy, Mining, Chemicals and Waste water recycling.

In her response, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Madam Mamadi Gobeh Kamara, acknowledged the steps taken so far by the delegation and applaud them for choosing Sierra Leone as an Investment destination to promote their businesses and further ensured to render necessary support to what is required from the Ministry.

“Investment and Country building has been a top priority to the Government and people of Sierra Leone, and Energy is key to Country development, which is why we are very deliberate to make sure we deliver to our people. She said”

The Honorable Deputy Minister noted that as much as the Country is looking for investors, they are also mindful to only involve in well meaningful investments that will benefit the people of Sierra Leone and in the end accomplish a win-win situation.

She thanked the delegation and reaffirmed the Ministries support to make their stay a successful one.

Sierra Leone Signs Economic and Technical Cooperation agreements with China

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, 11th February, 2022: The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Professor David John Francis and the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, H.E Hu Zhangliang have today signed Joint Economic and technical Cooperation agreement between China and Sierra Leone at the Ministry’s Conference room.

 

Professor Francis in his statement said the agreement process was initiated at the China-African Forum in Dakar, Senegal. He said the signing of the Economic and Technical Cooperation agreements with China symbolizes the cordial bilateral relationship that has existed between the two Countries and that, they will continue to cement the great win-win collaboration.

The agreement on Economic Cooperation will help reduce the costs of trade, improve the availability of goods and services, and increase consumer purchasing power in both Nations. . On technical cooperation, this will cultivate the human resources who will shoulder the burden of nation-building activities that will be primarily information and services oriented.
