Foreign Affairs Minister Calls on Russia to Boost the Economy

Dr. Alie Kabba-Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Thursday 22nd November, 2018 called on the Russia Ambassador to Sierra Leone to bring investors to Sierra Leone. He appealed to the Ambassador to lure investors to come and invest in the country, adding that Sierra Leone has a conducive business environment that will make businesses grow and boost the economy. Dr. Kabba maintained that investments by Russians in Sierra Leone will strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries. He informed the Ambassador on discussion he has held with President Julius Maada Bio on the relationship between Sierra Leone and Russia, describing Russia as a major player in the international system. The meeting took place in the office of the Minister, Tower Hill in Freetown.

Minister Kabba thanked and appreciated the Government of Russia for the support towards the cleaning of Freetown especially the provision of trucks to move waste materials around the city to dump sites, and encouraged the Ambassador for bilateral ties between Freetown and Moscow in terms of development. He also appreciated the Russia Government for its support to the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) especially the signing of Agreement and training of military personnel from RSLAF in Russia. He expressed satisfaction on the level of bilateral relationship that had existed between the two countries, and look forward to more technical cooperation between the two countries. Dr. Kabba affirmed his willingness to honour the invitation for a State Visit to Russia in January, 2019. He appealed for cooperation on education between the two Governments that will provide Sierra Leonean students the opportunity to study in Russia.

The Russia Ambassador to Sierra Leone resident in Guinea, His Excellency Alexander Bregadze informed the Sierra Leone Foreign Affairs Minister of the Technical Military Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Defence for the Government of Sierra Leone and the Government of Russia and described the signing as an important event for both countries. He appealed to Minister Kabba for the urgent ratification of the Agreement, so as to enable fifty military personnel to receive training from all ranks in the Army in Russia.

The Ambassador was accompanied by the Russian Federation Honorary Consul to Sierra Leone Dr. Hussein Basma.
